Society is becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of consumerism with high levels of electronic waste. Yet many manufacturers continue to produce poor quality products with a very short 1- or 2-year lifecycle giving little thought to sustainable waste management. At Sharp, reliability and durability is fundamental to our brand credibility. We are trusted in the industry as a quality manufacturer.

Choosing quality is the most significant thing we can do for sustainability. The longer the lifecycle, the less we consume, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and conserving natural resources.

Reduce Energy Use

Recognizing that more than 80% of the CO2 footprint of a display is created during usage, improving energy efficiency is key to reducing the impact on the environment. We are committed to sustainable product design, continually innovating to bring to market products and solutions with significantly improved energy efficiency, whereby assisting our customers in both reducing their carbon footprint and their energy costs.

How are we improving the energy efficiency of our products?

Our desktop monitors, large format displays and projectors all feature ECO Modes, designed to minimize energy consumption during operation.

Intelligent Power Management features and Auto-standby Mode ensure a device is only switched on when a source is connected.

Inbuilt scheduling functionality avoids unnecessary operating time by automatically powering down at a pre-set time.

Our Human Presence sensor powers up a display only when someone is nearby, saving over 30% CO2 consumption.


Innovation in product design can generate significant energy savings. New ePaper Displays consume a remarkable zero-watts during content display and third generation flip-chip LED FE Series achieves a 60% reduction in power usage compared to its predecessor.

Brightness sensors adapt the display brightness to the ambient light conditions, optimizing brightness levels and minimizing power usage.

Sharp and NEC displays are shipped in an energy saving preset, extending the life of the display and resulting in reduced energy bills for the user.

Reduce Waste

Without compromising our high standards of customer service and the protection of products during shipment, we continually seek ways to minimize wastage across all our operations. By optimizing packaging sizes to use less material we have reduced freight costs which can save up to 35% in CO2 emissions. Our packaging is 100% recyclable.

How are we reducing waste?

Sharp is working on a concept whereby products are initially shipped from the factory in collective packaging, then transferred to the warehouse individually, therefore reducing shipping materials where possible.

Embedded computing devices use power more efficiently and don’t require additional mounting systems, cabling or power supplies which could ultimately become waste.

Product manuals are not printed but are available to download online.


Our modular display design means there is no redundant embedded hardware. The user configures the display selecting the appropriate slot-in device, only if it is needed.

New projector ranges are designed to ultilize the same lenses and mounting infrastructure of legacy ranges helping to reduce waste when upgrading performance levels.

During large rollouts, products can be shipped without unnecessary power cables or stands, as required.

Reuse and Repair

Our focus is on producing products, solutions and services that last, providing fit-for-purpose performance over an extended lifecycle. Our commitment to quality is demonstrated by our consistently low failure rate, one of the best in the industry. Should a repair be necessary, we offer comprehensive pan-European and Global service programs.

How are we extending the product lifecycle?

Sharp’s innovative open modular design allows computing power to be upgraded, signage isn’t disposed of, but repurposed or reconfigured, extending the life of the display.

The long-life reliability of Sharp and NEC’s products, often beyond standard refresh cycles, means displays can be repurposed elsewhere to continue to give excellent performance.

dvLED is highly serviceable with components that can be repaired and replaced. Sharp offers a comprehensive, tailored dvLED service program to support its extraordinarily long lifetime of over 10 years.


We stock spare parts beyond the legal requirement to support our repair programs. Cinema projector components are in stock for 10 years and longer. For our LED technologies, we stock spare parts according to customer need and the service life of each product.

We support the refurbishment of our Solid State Light Source projectors locally, avoiding wastage and long transport routes.


Before we bring a product to market, early in the design stage, we are already thinking about the end of its lifecycle, when it is no longer fit-for-purpose. By utilizing materials which are recyclable or are already recycled, we are prioritizing sustainable waste management.

How are we addressing the end of the lifecycle?

Sharp uses recycled materials for all its products and avoids hazardous substances. Our large format displays, at 97.4%, are almost entirely recyclable, which is remarkable in our industry.

We do not use glue as an adhesive in the construction of our displays. This supports both serviceability and sustainable waste management.


We predominantly use metal housings and components for our large format displays and LED modules, a material that plays a decisive role in durability, safety and recyclability.

Metal naturally dissipates heat from heat-sensitive electronic components to enhance longevity. Many of our competitors choose plastic or polycarbonate. Unlike plastic, metal is almost infinitely recyclable, contributing to the circular economy.
